A local theme channel on DTT for the 22nd Rendez-vous de l'Histoire

As part of the 22nd Rendez-vous de l'histoire festival, TDF and Rendez-vous de l'histoire are teaming up to create a local, ephemeral terrestrial channel that will be available on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), from October 4 to 15, 2019, in Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire.

This festival, held annually in Blois and open to all, is a privileged meeting place for historians who come to share their thoughts, present their work and compare their points of view, with the aim of contributing to the progress of historical research and knowledge.

An ephemeral channel to experience the event from a distance

TDF is setting up an innovative broadcasting system, the only one of its kind in France, from its transmitters at Tours-Chissay and Blois.
Tours-Chissay and Blois.

Accessible to the populations of Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire, this ephemeral local TV channel will broadcast conferences from the current festival and those recorded in previous years in the Halle aux grains. In addition to recordings and broadcasts, historical documentaries produced by France Télévisions will complete the programming.

Technical production (dressing, control room, programming, etc.) and broadcasting are handled by TDF, in collaboration with Les Rendez-vous de l'histoire and the University of Tours, who provide the content and take care of image capture.

DTT, the reference platform

The DTT platform is the leading mode of TV reception in France, with coverage of 97% of the population and 68% of households using it (IFOP survey - May 2018, available at www.tdf.fr).

Through its experimentation and innovation work, TDF continues to enhance the DTT platform, which offers a free, open-access, high-quality service that is highly appreciated by viewers. As France's leading terrestrial broadcaster, TDF reiterates the essential role of DTT as an efficient, essential platform for distributing media content.

Fibre optic cable, a structuring project for the Loire Valley

The Val de Loire Fibre project company, a subsidiary of TDF and Banque des Territoires, was set up in January 2018 to deploy, operate and market the fiber optic network in the sparsely populated areas of Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire. The project involves the installation, by 2022, of 306,000 sockets that will provide Very High Speed Internet connections to residents and businesses in 513 communes. TDF aims to be a key player in digital development, serving local authorities, businesses and residents alike.

The arrival of fiber to the home in rural areas is designed to boost the region's economic attractiveness and contribute to the development of new activities in the fields of health, education, the environment and more.

Olivier Huart, Chairman and CEO of TDF, comments: " We are delighted to be working with the Loir-et-Cher region, where we are already deploying fiber optics in rural communities. The creation of the Rendez-vous de l'Histoire DTT channel is the result of the technical expertise of our TDF teams and a local desire to open up culture and history to all. This wonderful project fits in perfectly with TDF's vision, as a player in the digital coverage of the territory ".
