With responsibility for IT equipment and maintenance in Brittany's 115 public high schools, the Region has undertaken to guarantee Internet speeds of between 30 and 100 Mbps. This has now been achieved in 89 of these establishments, but while this "comfortable" speed facilitates use, it also increases needs. The aim now is to go one step further and bring the servers of these high schools together in a single location, in order to improve security and service availability. The All Saints' vacation was used to transfer data from 20 schools to TDF's data center in Cesson-Sévigné, near Rennes.
A large-scale operation carried out in a secure and adapted center
With the rise of digital education, this major server migration project, carried out in partnership with the Académie de Rennes, required a year and a half of preparation and mobilized 73 people during the school vacations, including the All Saints' Day bank holiday. As a regular partner of local authorities, TDF now hosts the data of these establishments at the request of the Region, in a secure, air-conditioned, scalable datacenter that is perfectly suited to the ever-growing storage needs of schools.
For teachers and students, 99% guaranteed access to Internet resources
From the start of the new school year on Monday, November 5, the 27 high schools concerned (7 had already benefited from an experiment between March and August 2018) will therefore be able, without hindrance, to carry out their digital projects in an IT space that is both available and secure By positioning itself as a "virtual operator" in the schools, the Region aims to provide teaching teams and their students with optimal access, greater than 99%, to IT equipment and teaching resources on the Internet. This maximum availability could only be achieved with the support of an external data center, whose architecture ensures that no service interruptions occur.
By 2022, all other facilities will be connected to this shared infrastructure.
