FAQ TNT UHD - 4K

Receive DTT in UHD - 4K

TDF answers questions about receiving France 2 in UHD on your TV via DTT.

Am I eligible for UHD DTT?

The France 2 channel began broadcasting in UHD in January 2024, and has gradually expanded in France to cover around 70% of the population in mainland France.

In the French overseas departments and territories, UHD is available to a large proportion of the population in Réunion, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Mayotte, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.

To check if you're in a UHD coverage zone, you can use TDF's ma TNT application https://www.matnt.tdf.fr/

Is my TV compatible with UHD TNT?

France 2 broadcasts in UHD using several new technologies:

  • the DVB-T2 broadcast standard
  • the HEVC compression standard
  • UHD 4K and HDR 10 image formats

To receive DTT in UHD, your TV must support all 4 technologies.

If your TV is not compatible with one of these technologies, you won't be able to receive France 2 UHD.
However, you will still be able to receive France 2 in HD on DTT channel 2.

If your TV is UHD / 4K compatible and you're in a UHD DTT reception zone, you'll need to perform an automatic or manual channel scan on the TV, and the UHD channels will be detected and installed.

On some TV sets, this search is sometimes carried out automatically on a periodic basis.

The chains will then install themselves without any action on your part.

If you don't know how to proceed channel search, you'll find information on the corporate site "Recevoir la TNT" website.

Please note that some TV sets require you to manually check DVB-T2 in the search parameters.

If you live in a condominium, your system may need to be upgraded to accommodate the new DTT UHD channels. Please check this with your building manager, who will consult the antenna specialist in charge of maintaining the system.

If you live in a single-family home, in principle you won't need to modify your installation to receive UHD DTT, unless your system includes special filtering or satellite reception.

If you live in an apartment building, your system may need to be rebuilt to accommodate the new UHD channels.
If your set-top box is compatible, but the channel scan does not show UHD channels, we recommend that you check this with your property manager, who will consult the antenna specialist responsible for maintaining your system.

What are the DTT UHD channel numbers?

- In mainland France:
o France 2 UHD: channel number 52
o France 3 UHD: channel number 53

- Overseas:
o France 2 UHD: channel number 22
o France 3 UHD: channel number 23

France 3 UHD programs will be broadcast from July 2024 (and perhaps temporarily earlier for certain events).

I have a reception problem

France 2 broadcasts in UHD using several new technologies:

  • the DVB-T2 broadcast standard
  • the HEVC compression standard
  • UHD 4K and HDR 10 image formats.

To receive DTT in UHD, your TV must support all 4 technologies.

If your TV is not compatible with one of these technologies, you won't be able to receive France 2 UHD.
However, you will still be able to receive France 2 in HD on DTT channel 2.

If your TV set seems to be compatible with all these technologies and you're still not receiving the channels, we suggest you first check that your TV set takes DVB-T2 into account during the channel search procedure (on some TV sets, you need to tick it in the search settings).

What's more, if you live in a condominium, the system may need to be upgraded to accommodate UHD channels. Please check this with your building manager, who will consult the antenna specialist in charge of maintaining the system.
