TDF welcomes DTT modernization proposals announced by Forum Audiovisuel Numérique (FAVN)

On February 7, 2019, the Forum AudioVisuel Numérique (FAVN) submitted its report on the technical specifications for the future DTT platform, in accordance with the mandate given by the Commission Technique d'Experts du Numérique (CTEN), which meets under the aegis of the Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel.

This is a major step in the implementation of the CSA's roadmap, adopted in February 2018, which aims to modernize DTT, moving it towards Ultra High Definition (UHD), ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in France.

The FAVN report thus stabilizes the choice of future broadcasting and signal compression specifications (DVB-T2 and HEVC) and provides predictability for all players in the sector as they plan to upgrade their TV sets.

As the leading DTT broadcaster, TDF supports the CSA's roadmap and welcomes this important step in the modernization of the DTT platform.

The adoption of these new technical specifications will enable channels to offer viewers improved picture and sound quality, and give them fast, easy access to non-linear, interactive TV services such as replay and restart.

TDF has set out its vision and proposals for tomorrow's DTT in a white paper entitled "The place of digital terrestrial television in the French audiovisual landscape", available here.
