Five years after opening its first datacenter in Bouliac, TDF inaugurated a second building on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, enabling it to offer large companies, local authorities and ESNs (Entreprises de Service Numérique) more solutions for hosting and protecting their sensitive IT equipment.
The commercial success of its first datacenter, the growing demand for IT outsourcing and the dynamism of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region in terms of digital projects, encouraged TDF to build this new datacenter. With a capacity of 120 bays, this project will enable TDF to continue to meet the needs of local players in the area of digital development, and to contribute to the region's commercial dynamism.
An investment of 7 million euros
Located near the heart of the Bordeaux conurbation, this project represents an investment of seven million euros for TDF. During the sixteen months of work, TDF called on a network of local and Limoges-based contractors, mobilizing around a hundred direct and indirect jobs in the Gironde basin.
A high-security building
TDF's new datacenter has been designed to guarantee a high-quality, ultra-secure and resilient environment for hosting sensitive IT equipment. It features :
- Two generators ready to start up in seconds in the event of a power cut;
- Two power distribution networks to the computer rack ;
- Two chillers, in charge of containing the heat dissipated by the hosted equipment;
- Two on-site telecom networks with different fiber optic paths to connect customer equipment to the Internet.
The new datacenter successfully passed a battery of tests simulating critical situations (main power supply failure, etc.). The two buildings of the TDF Bordeaux-Bouliac datacenter are autonomous in terms of energy architecture, cooling system and telecoms infrastructure.
Eco-responsible design
A 250-square-meter green roof covers the new datacenter. It moderates the external thermal effects on the IT rooms, particularly during heatwaves, and actively combats urban heat island warming.
First contract signed for new datacenter
Systonic, a Bordeaux-based digital services company whose 70% of business is based on the provision of managed hosting solutions in datacenters, has signed a reservation for a room in TDF's new Bordeaux-Bouliac datacenter. Systonic already has two rooms in operation in the first datacenter, and TDF is supporting its growth.
Certifications
TDF's four data centers (located in Rennes, Lille, Aix-en-Provence and Bordeaux-Bouliac), have obtained ISO 27 001 certification guaranteeing a highly secure hosting service for its customers (certification issued by Bureau Véritas in 2015 and renewed in 2018) as well as the :
- Participant Code of Conduct: promoting good datacenter practices with a view to optimizing energy expenditure and carbon footprint, among other things.
- RT2012 (Réglementation Thermique 2012), a standard requiring buildings to be energy-efficient and to include at least one renewable energy source (Bordeaux-Bouliac only).
" With this new building, the TDF Bordeaux-Bouliac datacenter becomes the largest TDF datacenter in mainland France. Thanks to our high hosting capacity, not only here near the Bordeaux metropolitan area, but also throughout France, as close as possible to our customers, we can offer services tailored to their individual needs. TDF is committed to facilitating economic development in the heart of the regions, and to supporting the digital development of these territories through a partnership approach," explains Olivier Huart, Chairman and CEO of the TDF Group.
"TDF is delighted to inaugurate this new datacenter in Bordeaux-Bouliac, to support the growing needs of its local authority, large enterprise and ESN customers in their outsourcing of sensitive IT equipment in a local datacenter with very high security and availability requirements," says Christine Landrevot, Managing Director of TDF's Telecom Division.
" Our partnership with TDF was born out of a shared desire to offer a new datacenter in the Bordeaux region. In 2012, Systonic was facing strong growth in its hosting business and wanted to diversify its offering. We were fully convinced by the approach proposed by TDF. With this new facility, we're particularly pleased with the progress we've made," explains Damien Delavie, Systonic's Managing Director.
