TDF announces the opening of its data center at Pic Rouge, high above Papeete. This strategic infrastructure meets the growing demand for high-performance, sovereign digital services in French Polynesia. It marks a key step in the deployment of digital solutions tailored to the specific needs of the French overseas territories.

The Papeete data center is TDF's fifth data center, and the company also has four data centers in mainland France.

With this new facility, TDF is reaffirming its commitment to the digital development of overseas territories and communities by offering secure, innovative data hosting solutions tailored to local realities.

Accelerating the digital transition of the French overseas territories

The site offers secure, innovative data hosting solutions tailored to local needs, contributing to the digital transformation of Polynesian companies and institutions.

TDF has a long-standing presence in the French overseas territories, where it has been accompanying technological transitions for over 50 years. TDF has been anchored in French Polynesia since the 1980s, when television was first deployed in the archipelago. A dedicated local team is based in Papeete, ensuring strong roots and a perfect understanding of the territory's realities.

An ambitious project tailored to local needs

The data center, to be delivered in June 2025 following construction work in the first half of 2025, will be located on TDF's strategic Pic Rouge site.

The former TDF building, originally dedicated to television and radio broadcasting and telecoms hosting, has been refurbished. The work has created a state-of-the-art infrastructure with optimized energy and IT infrastructures, including a heat recovery system to regulate temperature. The building's roof will also be fitted with photovoltaic panels by the end of 2025.

The location of the Pic-Rouge TDF site is strategic for two reasons:

  • Situated at an altitude of 300m, the site is outside the submersible zone, guaranteeing a high level of resilience in the face of natural hazards.
  • The site benefits from high-performance connectivity thanks to a fiber connection and High Definition microwave links.

The site successfully passed a compliance audit by a certified body, validating its resilience in terms of energy, air conditioning, fire detection and extinguishing, and perimeter security (Tier III level).

This project is part of TDF's overall strategy to support the digital transition in overseas France by optimizing existing land and energy resources. Tailored to the specific needs of customers, this agile model is also adaptable to other territories with limited or inaccessible IT infrastructures.

Strategic first customers

As soon as it opened, the site welcomed its first customers: Banque de Polynésie, a subsidiary of Société Générale, and Axians Polynésie.

As part of this dynamic, an extension phase is already planned for 2026 to expand the site's capacity and accommodate new customers.

" This data center embodies our concrete commitment to meeting the crucial needs for digital sovereignty and proximity expressed by overseas territories. It is fully in line with our global digital development strategy, particularly in the French overseas territories, where guaranteeing access to reliable and secure IT infrastructures is a major challenge for supporting the growth and resilience of local communities ", says Rémi de Montgolfier, Director of Edge Data centers at TDF.

" The opening of the Pic Rouge data center represents a major step forward for French Polynesia. It testifies to our commitment at TDF to actively support the digital transformation of the French overseas territories by offering high-performance, secure infrastructures that are perfectly adapted to local specificities. This ambitious project illustrates our long-term commitment to Polynesian businesses and communities, strengthening the region's digital sovereignty while ensuring optimum resilience in the face of environmental challenges," says Christophe Sobczyk, TDF's Pacific Territorial Director.
