TDF inaugurates four new telecommunications sites in French Guiana

On Friday, February 21, 2020, TDF inaugurated four new telecommunications sites in Carrière, in the presence of Ms Sibeth Ndiaye, Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, Government Spokesperson; Mr Cédric O, Secretary of State for the Digital Sector; and Mr Marc Del Grande, Prefect of the French Guiana region.

These sites, each 50 meters high, will cover the white zone on Route Nationale 1 (RN1) between the towns of Kourou and Sinnamary in French Guiana.

The RN1 connects the communes of Saint Laurent-du-Maroni and Cayenne, linking the region from west to east. This white zone made it impossible to call for help in the event of an accident. Thanks to the installation of new TDF sites, mobile coverage is now operational, helping to ensure road safety for Guyanese.

The inauguration takes place at 2:30 pm (local time) at the Carrière site (located at PK 69 of the RN1), and bears witness to TDF's action in two areas.

TDF committed to reducing its environmental footprint

TDF has been committed to reducing its energy consumption on a daily basis for many years.
The Carrière site is a good illustration of this: powered by a new system called "e-power", solar radiation is transformed into electricity and supplies the site with renewable energy.

TDF at the service of regional coverage

As a major infrastructure operator (Tower Company), TDF has a comprehensive tower deployment program to serve its customers: telecom operators, local authorities, public and private players. The Group plays an active role in the digital development of territories and the elimination of "white zones" for the benefit of the populations concerned. Thanks to its proven solutions for pooling and environmental integration, the new RN1 sites are now open to cell phone operators.

Olivier Huart, Chairman and CEO of TDF: " Infrastructure deployment is now TDF's core business, and is helping to accelerate digital coverage in mainland France and the French overseas territories. It is a real source of pride to be able to provide the Guyanese with the infrastructure they need to cover the RN1 white zone.
