For the second year running, operator TDF and the Rendez-vous de l'histoire have joined forces to create a local, ephemeral terrestrial channel. The channel will be available on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) from October 2 to 15, 2020, in Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire and, new this year, Loiret.
This festival, held annually in Blois and open to all, is a privileged meeting place for historians who come to share their thoughts, present their work and compare their points of view, with the aim of contributing to the progress of historical research and knowledge.
Extended distribution to the Orléans transmitter to further open up the event
TDF is setting up an innovative broadcasting system from its transmitters in Tours-Chissay, Blois and Orléans-Traînou. Accessible to the populations of Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire and Loiret, this ephemeral local TV channel will broadcast conferences from the current festival and those recorded in previous years. In addition to live recordings and broadcasts, historical documentaries produced by France Télévisions will complete the programming.
TDF is in charge of technical production (dressing, control room, programming, etc.) and broadcasting, in collaboration with Les Rendez-vous de l'histoire, the Conseil départemental de Loir-et-Cher and the University of Tours, which provide the content and image capture.
DTT, the reference platform
The DTT platform is the leading mode of television reception in France, with coverage of 97% of the population and 68% of households using it (IFOP survey - May 2018, available at www.tdf.fr). Through its experimentation and innovation work, TDF continues to act in favor of enriching the DTT platform, which offers a free, open-access, high-quality service that is much appreciated by viewers.
Fibre optic cable, a structuring project for the Loire Valley
The Val de Loire Fibre project company, a subsidiary of TDF and Banque des Territoires, was formed in January 2018 to roll out, operate and market the fiber optic network in the sparsely populated areas of Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire. The project involves the installation of 320,000 sockets that will provide Very High Speed Internet connections to residents and businesses in 513 communes. TDF is determined to play a key role in digital development, serving local authorities, businesses and residents alike.
The arrival of fiber in rural areas aims to strengthen the economic attractiveness of the territory and contribute to the development of new activities in the fields of health, education, the environment, etc.
Olivier Huart, Chairman and CEO of TDF, comments: " Our partnership with the Val de Loire is a long-term one, with the deployment of fiber optics in rural areas. As a key player in the digital coverage of the region, we are delighted to reconfirm our partnership with the Rendez-vous de l'Histoire and to showcase our expertise in audiovisual broadcasting. In this very special year due to the health crisis, DTT will enable many people to experience the event from a distance .
