faucigny glières Inauguration Fibre deployment

The communauté de communes of Faucigny Glières chooses TDF to complete the rollout of fiber optics in its territory

The Faucigny Glières community of communes (Haute-Savoie) and TDF made official this Thursday, September 22, in Bonneville, the takeover of the fiber optic network by the TDF group and the creation of Faucigny Glières Fibre, the TDF subsidiary now in charge of the project.

Following a call for tenders lasting several months, TDF was awarded the contract to take over the leasing of part of the existing fiber optic network (3,100 existing outlets) and to roll out the network in the areas and communes not yet deployed.
The first stage of the project involves the rollout, over three years, of 11,400 new outlets to provide residents and businesses in 100% of the seven communes - Ayze, Bonneville, Brison, Contamine-sur-Arve, Glières-Val-de-Borne, Marignier and Vougy - with a very high-speed Internet connection (FttH).
TDF plans to invest 20 million euros in this area. No financial burden will be placed on the local authority, which will become the owner of the network at the end of the public service delegation in 25 years' time.

Deployment: the project has begun

In July and August 2022, the first operational phase has already begun. This phase involves detailed studies to identify existing civil engineering infrastructures, define precise network routes and identify the location of street cabinets from which households and businesses will be connected.

Work will be carried out in a second phase. The new networks in Brison, Bonneville, Contamine-sur-Arve, Glières-Val-de-Borne and Marignier will be rolled out progressively. The communes of Ayze, Vougy and part of Bonneville already have fiber optic coverage. The complete network will include a new optical connection node (currently being rolled out) and thirty-eight sharing points spread across the seven communes.

The precise deployment schedule, sector by sector, will be available on the Faucigny Glières Fibre website in November.

New operators available from 2023

Faucigny Glières Fibre, a subsidiary of TDF, aims to play a key role in the digital development of the Faucigny Glières region, serving local authorities, businesses and the general public.

Benefiting from TDF's neutrality and expertise vis-à-vis commercial operators, residents of the communauté de communes will soon be able to take advantage of an expanded offer for their fiber optic subscription. The main operators will be present in towns already equipped with fiber from the first quarter of 2023.

The deployment of fiber will provide a faster, more reliable Internet connection, with speeds of up to several Gigabits per second, depending on the operator's offer. This structuring project is designed to enhance the economic attractiveness of the region and help develop new activities.

TDF, an established player in the fiber market

The communauté de communes de Faucigny Glières recognized TDF as a key player in the digital development of the region, and a reliable industrial player offering solid financial guarantees for the rapid deployment of fiber in rural areas.

Since 2017, four territories have already entrusted TDF with the deployment, operation and marketing of the fiber optic network in low-density areas in five départements: Val d'Oise, Yvelines, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher and Maine-et-Loire.

TDF is committed to building high-quality, high-performance networks. All of TDF's digital infrastructures, including its fiber optic networks, are continuously supervised, operated and maintained. This high operational standard ensures 99.9% service continuity, and a 90% success rate in connecting residents and businesses to fiber from the very first appointment.

Stéphane Valli, President of the Faucigny Glières Community of Communes and Mayor of Bonneville, comments: "I'm delighted to be finalizing this public service delegation for the deployment of fiber optics in our region. This service is eagerly awaited by our residents, and will contribute to improving the quality of life and services provided to the population".

Cyril Gasc, Managing Director of TDF's Fibre Business Unit, comments: "On behalf of all TDF employees, I am proud to announce a new fibre optic network managed by the TDF group for the benefit of the residents of the Faucigny-Glières community of communes. This is the beginning of a wonderful collaboration that will eventually enable all homes and businesses in the area to benefit from the major advantages of fiber optics, with the presence of the main operators. I would like to thank the local authorities for their confidence in us. Aware of the stakes and the expectations of the population, we are mobilizing our operational expertise, as well as our technical and human resources, to launch the rollout.
