Since November 5, the towns of Bordeaux and Arcachon have benefited from DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting): digital radio. In addition to FM radio, TDF now broadcasts twenty-six radios in Bordeaux and thirteen radios in Arcachon on DAB+.
Two months of work to roll out DAB+ in Gironde
To enable these new services to be broadcast, TDF's teams completed a complete new technical installation within a tight timeframe. The work involved installing a new antenna system on each of the two TDF sites concerned, as well as a multiplexing cell and associated transmitters. In addition, work had to be carried out to adapt the infrastructure (particularly in terms of energy and ventilation).
To guarantee coverage, TDF provides DAB+ broadcasting from its transmitters in Bordeaux (Bouliac) and Camicas (La Teste-de-Buch).
TDF's Bordeaux-Bouliac transmitter already broadcasts FM radio and DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television), and hosts mobile network equipment for the entire Bordeaux area.
The TDF transmitter at La Teste-de-Buch is the former Camicas maritime radio center. TDF broadcasts FM radio and hosts mobile networks on this site.
As an industrial partner to radio stations, TDF is both a multiplex operator, through its subsidiary RMux, and a technical expert. The operator offers its customers an end-to-end service: program collection, encoding, multiplexing, transport and broadcasting in DAB+ format.
DAB+ technology delivers high sound quality and offers a wider range of free radio stations, enhanced with information as you listen. To listen to DAB+ radio stations, you need a DAB+-equipped radio or car radio.
To guarantee continuity of service and optimum quality, TDF relies on its operational excellence in radio and television broadcasting.
Franck Langrand, Managing Director of TDF's Audiovisual BU said:
"I'm delighted with the arrival of DAB+ in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, now broadcast via TDF's Bordeaux-Bouliac and Camicas sites in La Teste-de-Buch. TDF has been firmly rooted in the region for many years. When it comes to DAB+, TDF is committed to supporting its customers, the program publishers, to best meet their digital coverage needs. To do this, we are drawing on our expertise in radio broadcasting over more than forty years to provide a complete DAB+ offering, from feed collection and headend, to signal transport via our entire existing network, and of course broadcasting."
