A project of the Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA), DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting*), digital terrestrial radio, extends its coverage this Tuesday, October 12.
TDF launches new local and regional DAB+ multiplexes in Toulon, Marseille, Avignon and Nice. In addition, two national multiplexes are now "on air", broadcasting to towns on the Paris-Lyon-Marseille route.
Many towns already benefit from this free over-the-air radio broadcasting technology, which complements FM radio.
As an industrial partner to publishers - radio stations - and a fervent advocate of this medium, TDF supports its customers and has deployed fifty-nine broadcast transmitters since DAB+ began in 2014.
Since 1991, TDF engineers have been innovating, launching the first experiments and contributing to the standardization of digital terrestrial radio. TDF offers its customers an end-to-end service: program collection, encoding, multiplexing, transport and broadcasting in DAB+ format. To guarantee continuity of service and optimum quality, TDF draws on its technical expertise, its mastery of DAB+ standards and its operational excellence in radio and TV broadcasting.
TDF teams are mobilized for these new DAB+ deployments
To enable these new multiplexes to be broadcast, TDF teams have built complete new technical installations. At the TDF broadcast sites concerned, this work involved installing new antenna systems, as well as a multiplexing cell and associated transmitters. In addition, work had to be carried out to adapt the infrastructure (particularly in terms of energy and ventilation).
* DAB+ technology delivers high sound quality and offers a wider range of free radio stations, enhanced with information while you listen. To listen to DAB+ radio stations, you need a DAB+-equipped radio or car radio.
Franck Langrand, Managing Director of TDF's Audiovisual BU, comments: "TDF has been a key player in radio broadcasting for many years. TDF is committed to supporting its customers, the program publishers, to best meet their coverage needs.
