Rendez-vous de l'Histoire 2021: TDF again broadcasts a dedicated ephemeral channel on DTT

Operator TDF and Rendez-vous de l'histoire join forces to create a local, ephemeral terrestrial channel, for the third year running. The channel will be available on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) from October 2 to 15, 2021, in Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire and Loiret.

This festival, held annually in Blois and open to all, is a privileged meeting place for historians who come to share their thoughts, present their work and compare their points of view, with the aim of contributing to the progress of historical research and knowledge.

Hertzian broadcasting from three TDF transmitters

For the past three years, TDF has been setting up an innovative broadcasting system from its transmitters in Tours-Chissay, Blois and Orléans-Traînou. Accessible to the populations of Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire and Loiret, thanks to a simple rake antenna, this ephemeral local TV channel will broadcast conferences from the current festival and those recorded in previous years. In addition to the recorded talks and broadcasts, historical documentaries produced by France Télévisions will complete the programming.

TDF is in charge of technical production (dressing, control room, programming, etc.) and broadcasting, in collaboration with Les Rendez-vous de l'histoire, the Conseil départemental de Loir-et-Cher and the University of Tours, which provide the content and image capture.

DTT, the reference platform

The DTT platform is one of the main modes of television reception in France, with coverage of 97% of the population and 52.5% of households using terrestrial hertzian reception (Observatoire de l'équipement audiovisuel des foyers de France métropolitaine, published by the Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel - 4th quarter 2020 data). Through its experimentation and innovation work, TDF continues to enhance the DTT platform, which offers a free, open-access, high-quality service that is highly appreciated by viewers.

Fibre optics, a structuring project for the Loire Valley

The Val de Loire Fibre project company, a subsidiary of TDF and Banque des Territoires, was formed in January 2018 to roll out, operate and market the fiber optic network in the sparsely populated areas of Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire. The project involves the installation of 320,000 sockets, eventually providing Very High Speed Internet connections to residents and businesses in 513 communes. TDF is determined to play a key role in digital development, serving local authorities, businesses and residents alike.
The arrival of fiber in rural areas aims to strengthen the economic attractiveness of the territory and contributes to the development of new activities in the fields of health, education, the environment, etc. TDF has already built more than 100,000 connections to date, including Le Clos Lucé, the Beauval Zoo and the Château d'Amboise.

Olivier Huart, Chairman and CEO of TDF, comments: "We are delighted to be partnering Les Rendez-Vous de l'Histoire once again, and to be contributing to its reach through our expertise in audiovisual broadcasting. More than ever in these times of health constraints, DTT enables many people to experience events from a distance. As a player in the digital coverage of the region, our collaboration with the Val de Loire is a long-term one, with the deployment of fiber optics in rural areas".
