Rennes metro: TDF starts work on mobile coverage and signs agreements with Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile

After launching the deployment of an indoor 3G/4G mobile coverage antenna infrastructure in the Rennes metro in September, TDF has announced that it has signed an agreement with Free Mobile, and has been selected by Bouygues Telecom, which has entered into exclusive negotiations with TDF. Customers of these operators will be able to benefit from very high-speed access in all stations and tunnels on line a.

In January 2017, TDF and Rennes Métropole signed an agreement authorizing TDF to deploy a technical infrastructure in the Rennes metro to relay cell phone operators' coverage and provide a high-quality 3G/4G service. This deployment will cover all 15 stations and tunnels on line a, which is 9.4 km long, and will be extended to line b, currently under construction.

Rennes metro users to benefit from improved mobile coverage before summer 2018

In line with its positioning as a neutral infrastructure operator, TDF provides a turnkey solution for all cell phone operators. The mutualization of the antenna system minimizes the amount of equipment to be installed in the metro right-of-way, and optimizes deployment costs. The agreements reached will enable Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile customers to make calls and access the Internet throughout metro line a before summer 2018. Discussions are underway with other operators to ensure that their customers can also benefit from this service.

TDF's expertise in indoor living spaces

Improving mobile coverage in places where people live (subways, shopping malls, offices, etc.) is a real challenge for operators today. The exponential growth in mobile data consumption, combined with the new "HQE" (High Environmental Quality) building construction standards, whose materials are an obstacle to mobile frequencies, make it necessary to deploy specific technical solutions. TDF has developed recognized expertise in the design of indoor coverage solutions, and today supports mobile operators in the deployment of these networks.

TDF's local roots

TDF confirms its strong commitment to the city of Rennes, after having contributed this summer to the mobile coverage of the Rennes - Le Mans high-speed line axis. The recent agreement between TDF and SNCF Gares & Connexions concerning mobile coverage of SNCF stations should represent a new opportunity for TDF to invest in Rennes to improve the quality of mobile services for its residents.

" TDF has had a strong presence in Rennes for several decades, and is proud to be playing its full role as a digital developer of urban centers. Connectivity needs are growing exponentially, and TDF is fully committed to connecting everywhere, faster," says Christine Landrevot, Managing Director of TDF's Telecom Division.
