TDF begins dismantling part of its shortwave transmitter center

On Monday September 12, 2022, TDF dismantled part of its shortwave transmission center in Montsinéry, French Guiana. The dismantling follows the sale of the land by TDF to the commune of Montsinéry.

Inaugurated in 1984, the transmission center's shortwave broadcasting activity ceased in 2013. TDF, owner of the 100-hectare site, decided to gradually sell the land to enable the installation of new activities (photovoltaic farms, eco-responsible development project), made possible thanks to the municipality of Montsinéry and the Etablissement Public Foncier et d'Aménagement de la Guyane (EPFAG).

As an operator of digital infrastructure and broadcaster for the whole of France, the TDF Group has a long-standing presence in French Guiana. It works alongside local authorities and operators to ensure digital coverage of the French overseas department.

TDF's Matoury-based teams work to operate broadcasting networks and build new, high-quality telecoms infrastructures that local residents and businesses need on a daily basis.

Cell phone coverage: TDF develops Guyana's territory
As an industrial player, TDF works alongside local authorities and mobile operators to deploy new towers and telecoms sites. Numerous projects are currently underway:

In 2020, TDF deployed the 4G mobile telephony infrastructure on Route Nationale 1 (RN1), running from Kourou to Sinnamary. This project, inaugurated in February 2020 in the presence of government ministers and local authorities, marks a decisive step in the development of mobile coverage in French Guiana.

In 2021-2022, TDF is working on an initial tranche of twenty areas with no mobile coverage, with the aim of building the mobile telephony infrastructure and covering the populations in these areas. The first towers will be erected this year. TDF is currently studying new areas to be covered.

Digital terrestrial television and FM radio: essential services for the population
TDF broadcasts Digital Terrestrial Television and FM radio throughout France. Guyana has 19 DTT sites and 65 FM frequencies that TDF teams operate and maintain every day. Broadcast over the air in high definition, DTT is popular with the population for its free, high-quality broadcasting and anonymity.
