As part of the Action Cœur de Ville program, the town of Arras, TDF and Banque des Territoires are working together to deploy a new free Wi-Fi service on the Grand' Place d'Arras.
This service, accessible free of charge from a smartphone, computer or tablet, is part of the town's digital strategy. By installing Wi-Fi on the Grand' Place, one of the town's most emblematic sites, the municipality is meeting the connectivity needs of Arrage residents, shopkeepers and tourists, particularly during the busy events organized on the square.
Promoting downtown connectivity
To guarantee service to as many people as possible, the network deployed by TDF enables over a thousand simultaneous, secure connections. What's more, thanks to the captive portal installed and configured by TDF, the city can analyze its downtown traffic data in detail.
A state-of-the-art technical platform
In charge of design and technical implementation, TDF deployed six Wi-Fi terminals on the Grand' Place, along with a new-generation network collection platform. TDF custom-designed the solution to ensure optimal integration of the installations into the overall architecture of the site. The platform deployed enables the local authority to guarantee users easy access to the wireless network via a personalized captive portal. TDF implemented specific measures to guarantee network security (personal identification, URL filtering) and to ensure the smoothest possible service. By pooling the technical equipment used, the solution deployed on the Grand' Place d'Arras by TDF is part of an energy optimization strategy in line with the work undertaken by the town of Arras in terms of digital sobriety.
