TDF newsletter for local authorities - March 2024

TDF at the forefront of environmental and social transitions

As an infrastructure operator committed to working alongside local authorities, TDF is committed to helping bridge the digital divide, while promoting strong social values and minimizing its environmental impact.

It is in this spirit that the group is deploying its new CSR strategy, which makes optimizing its energy consumption and protecting the environment strategic priorities for the company. For example, on March 13, TDF inaugurated the construction of the new photovoltaic power plant at Boussès (Lot-et-Garonne), which will eventually cover almost all TDF's electricity needs in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

TDF has also demonstrated its long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility: the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark awarded the group an overall score of 98/100 for the quality of its management and its voluntary commitments, in particular its membership of the UN Global Compact, which ranks TDF second among Europe's "Telecom Infrastructure" companies.

Concerned about its social impact, and more than ever committed to promoting fairness in the workplace and combating all forms of discrimination, TDF has also just signed an agreement on professional equality between men and women and measures relating to parenthood. These measures consolidate the group's pioneering status in this area, which already boasts a professional equality index of 94/100.

Our ongoing commitment is to make equality, everywhere, faster, a hallmark of our action!

France 2 and France 3 DTT reception in UHD by July 2024

With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games just a few months away, in January TDF began broadcasting the France 2 channel in Ultra High Definition/4K on DTT. A technical feat coupled with a determination to let as many people as possible enjoy a grandiose spectacle from the comfort of their own homes, thanks to the unrivalled performance of UHD. Further transmitters will be brought into service until June 2024, to cover 70% of the population by then. France 3 will also be available in UHD from July 2024.

With 62% of the French population still watching television via DTT, the latter is proving that, despite competing offers (Internet boxes, IPTV, OTT, etc.), it still has a bright future ahead of it. DTT also has a mission of general interest, since it guarantees everyone free, high-quality access to information and entertainment, regardless of geographical location.

For the record, TDF organized a round-table discussion on the theme "Does France's territories still need television via #TNT in the age of very high-speed broadband? at the 2023 Salon des Maires, in the presence of Béatrice Piron, Member of Parliament for Yvelines, Sébastien Populaire, Mayor of Touillon-et-Loutelet, Jacques Donat-Bouillud, Director of Broadcasting at France Télévisions and Karim El Naggar, Managing Director of Audiovisual and Networks at TDF.

Fiber optics: TDF is the most reliable infrastructure operator, according to Arcep

arcep fiber network quality comparison

In July 2023, Arcep set up an observatory to assess the effect of work undertaken by the industry on the quality of fiber optic networks. On February 16, the authority published the second edition of this survey. It confirms TDF's position as leader, ranked No. 1 among infrastructure operators with the lowest average failure rate.

In terms of connections, TDF's networks remain among the top three infrastructure operators with the lowest connection failure rates in France. These results testify to the robustness and reliability of the fiber networks operated by TDF, as well as their excellent quality of service.

Innovative solutions to reconcile heritage and connectivity in the Gard region

Louis Donnay, mayor of Domazan (Gard), talks in an interview about the commune's good collaboration with TDF since 2017 and the installation of a cell phone tower equipped with a photovoltaic shade.

The installation was a response to a twofold imperative: to improve telephone coverage in the commune, which until now had lacked coverage (today all four operators serve the commune), while preserving the landscape and natural heritage of the area.

... Reunion Island!

From the Saint-Denis-La Montagne (above) and Saint-Pierre-Hyacinthe sites, TDF teams broadcast France Télévisions' event channel Réunion la 1ère Ultra-HD, on the experimental DTT channel 81. Over and above the exceptional panorama enjoyed by this site, TDF can be proud of the resilience and reliability of all its installations on the island, which withstood the passage of cyclone Belal and storm Candice in January.
