What better proof - if any were needed - of the vitality and attractiveness of the DTT platform than the flurry of applications - 27 in all - received by ARCOM for the renewal of fifteen French TV licenses. On May 22, ARCOM announced that it had accepted 25 of these 27 applications. In a further sign of success, every channel with an existing authorization has applied for renewal.
In addition to those who would like to remain on the platform, there are many other contenders, such as the newspapers L'express and Ouest France, and CMI France, owned by Daniel Kretinsky. And some of those already established, such as the TF1 group (which already holds five authorizations on DTT), are applying for new channels to diversify their programming, although they cannot exceed the maximum number of seven channels on DTT.
Following a series of hearings - broadcast by Arcom on its website between July 8 and 17 - the regulator will announce its shortlist by the end of July. From autumn onwards, and until the end of the year, it will negotiate agreements with the preselected channels.
At TDF, the main technical operator for DTT broadcasting, we're delighted with the interest in digital terrestrial television. In addition to its democratic nature (free and accessible throughout the country, for information and entertainment), it is also one of the most energy-efficient technologies. Energy consumption for one hour of DTT TV is eight times lower than for streaming, and eleven times lower than for IPTV.
At a time when optimizing our carbon footprint must be at the heart of our actions, TDF, a player committed to responsible digital broadcasting, is delighted to note that DTT, a vector of social cohesion, education and entertainment for all, is destined for a promising future.

Director of relations with local authorities
Almost all homes, businesses and local authorities in the two départements are now connected to fiber, even in the most isolated rural areas.
In all, TDF subsidiary Val de Loire Fibre has deployed 325,000 outlets in the two communities, covering a total of 513 communes and delegated communes within the scope of the public-initiative network.
This success was celebrated on June 3 at Domaine de Candé, Monts (37) in the presence of Sylvie Giner, President of Val de Loire Numérique, François Bonneau, President of the Centre-Val de Loire Region, Philippe Gouet, President of Loir-et-Cher, Nadège Arnault, President of Indre-et-Loire and Olivier Huart, CEO of TDF.
This is the question TDF has sought to answer in its white paper. With the exponential increase in demand for connectivity, the construction and operation of telecoms towers play a vital role in our society. However, this rapid growth brings with it significant environmental and social challenges.
Hence the need for towercos (tower companies) to adopt eco-responsible practices to minimize their environmental impact, through the technologies and methods listed by TDF in this vademecum de la TowerCo responsable.
