electromagnetic field measurements 2024 fort du sapey alpes

At the Fort de Sapey site in Savoie, a TDF technician measures electromagnetic fields using specialized instruments and protective clothing.
These operations are part of the regular checks carried out on all the group's infrastructures. For over 50 years, TDF has operated a vast network of antennas and broadcasting equipment for radio, television and telecommunications. In this context, the monitoring of electromagnetic fields is an integral part of routine maintenance and safety procedures.

Fort du Sapey, located at an altitude of 1,700 meters on the ridge separating the communes of Saint-André and Modane, is a historic alpine fortification built between 1885 and 1891. Initially designed to defend the Maurienne valley, it was modernized in the 1930s to form part of the Alpine Maginot Line. Today, it stands as a testament to France's military heritage. TDF operates the Fort du Sapey site to broadcast digital terrestrial television (DTT) and radio services. The transmitter on this site provides coverage of Modane and the surrounding communes, enabling residents to receive high-quality TV channels.
