This wrought-iron ORTF logo represents the 4 letters of the Office de radiodiffusion-télévision française (ORTF). It hangs on the wall of the Saint Aoustrille (36) site near Issoudun, where the museum preserves the equipment and memory of long-, medium- and short-wave broadcasting. ORTF, a public institution created in 1964, is the successor to French radio and television (RTF). Its missions were to : - overseeing public radio and television broadcasting, - managing national and regional broadcasting and audiovisual production.
ORTF symbolized the state monopoly on French radio and television. It was dissolved in 1975 to make way for seven separate companies. - One national radio programming company: Radio France - Three national television companies - Three public establishments - Télédiffusion de France (TDF), which manages the Office's transmitters. - Société française de production (SFP), which manages the Office's production activities. - Institut national de l'audiovisuel (INA), responsible for managing radio and television archives.
