Fibre optic deployment

50 years of TDF history

fiber optic deployment in maine et loire

A pioneer in the deployment of fiber optics, TDF is committed, from 2017, to reducing the digital divide in rural areas. By winning public-initiative networks in Val d'Oise, Yvelines, Val de Loire, Anjou and Faucigny Glières, TDF is supporting the evolution of digital uses, from teleworking to streaming and telemedicine. Ultra-high-speed broadband had already been the backbone of the Group's activities for several years.

Created in the 1980s, the TMS (Transport de Médias et Signaux) network was initially designed to carry audiovisual flows. Thanks to this revolutionary infrastructure, TDF was able to broadcast television and radio programs throughout France. Over the decades, the TMS network has been modernized for the digital age, handling increasing volumes of data. Today, it plays a central role in the transport of digital content and contributes to the development of very high-speed services. Through its FTTH (Fiber To The Home) projects, TDF has deployed fiber optic networks in territories sometimes neglected by traditional operators. These deployments connect more than 750,000 homes, businesses and local authorities to a state-of-the-art infrastructure, guaranteeing equal access to ultra-high-speed broadband for all citizens. At the end of 2024, TDF and Banque des Territoires announce the sale of the fiber business to CVC DIF.
