50 years of TDF history

DAB+ antenna Nancy Malzeville transmitter

DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting), the digital terrestrial radio, continues to roll out in France, a project spearheaded by Arcom (Autorité de régulation de la communication audiovisuelle et numérique). Among the many projects carried out in recent years, in 2024 TDF is deploying the DAB+ antenna atop the Nancy-Malzéville transmitter in Meurthe-et-Moselle. The introduction of this radio technology will enable the entire population of Nancy and the surrounding area to benefit from new radio stations with high sound quality. A leading player in FM and DAB+ radio broadcasting throughout France, operator TDF has been distributing digital radio since 2014. An expert in DAB+ broadcasting, TDF operates an end-to-end service: network headend, signal transport and service broadcasting.

DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) is a digital terrestrial broadcasting system for radio, similar to DTT for television. It enables radio stations not only to offer listeners high quality sound, but also to transmit additional information and visuals in addition to the audio stream. In all, almost one hundred DAB+ transmitters, each containing thirteen radios broadcast in digital quality, have been put into service at over 70 TDF broadcast sites throughout France. 65% of the French population can now receive DAB+ radio at home. Many roads are also covered for mobile reception.
