Ondes Courtes rotating antenna Issoudun

50 years of TDF history

shortwave rotating antennas issoudun

The TDF site in Issoudun is home to the Ondes Courtes (or decametric waves) rotating antennas, both analog and digital (DRM), for long-distance international broadcasting. Built in 1992, the twelve antennas are named after rivers: Volga, Danube, Amour, Oural, MeKong, Sénégal, Amazone, Mississippi, Nil, Saint Laurent, Gange and Tigre. They are capable of covering areas up to 8,000 kilometers from the point of transmission.

These 80m-high structures can be oriented at will towards any broadcast zone. In less than 2 minutes, the 200 tons of antenna can be positioned to within 1 degree of each other, enabling the various broadcast sequences to be interlinked. In Issoudun, a dedicated TDF team has the special skills required to operate these high-power transmitters.
