TDF and mobile TV
International experiments
Apart from in Finland, where the Digita network is already deployed, TDF is involved via its subsidiaries in several international experiments conduced, as in France, with the main audiovisual and telecommunications players of the countries concerned:
In Hungary, Antenna Hungária has just completed an experiment in Budapest. Antenna Hungária started in 2005 the technical preparatory work necessary for providing television broadcasting services which can be viewed on mobile phones and other devices such as PDA or laptop as part of a cooperation effort with the involvement of 8 European countries, under the project called WING TV. Together with T-Mobile, AH launched a mobile television test in April, 2007. Under the cooperation agreement between the two companies, a full range technical test was conducted, where it was investigated, whether the programme broadcasting network of AH and the mobile technology can be connected so that it would fit the purposes of a DVB-H based service. The DVB-H experiments were taken up by Vodafone in summer 2007. In January, 2008 T-Mobile, Vodafone, Nokia-Siemens and AH concluded an agreement under which the mobile television broadcasting experiment consisting of a successful technical test and a so called ‘friendly user' test was continued.
In Estonia, Levira is operating a network covering the capital Tallinn, for a commercial pilot due to last until the end of 2008.
Other experiments are also planned, most notably in Poland.
Launch of mobile TV in Austria for Euro 2008: MEDIA BROADCAST won the platform license.
