Broadband with WiMAX

WiMAX is the latest wireless broadband access technology. It is the most advanced in terms of throughput, range, quality of service and safety. WiMAX enables us to offer individuals, companies and public services a range of services comparable to ADSL (broadband navigation, IP telephony, Internet services), whilst providing new solutions in terms of coverage and use thanks to roaming.
WiMAX networks complete existing networks efficiently: ADSL, cable, fibre optics, GSM, UMTS.
In concrete terms, this technology now provides a throughput per user of 512 Kbits to 2 Mbits over a distance of up to 15 km in a rural environment. Subsequently, offers should be extended and "increase" in power in terms of throughput. Thanks to its characteristics, WiMAX is particularly suited for the coverage of zones in which broadband access is not yet available. WiMAX is a standard supported throughout the world by the WiMAX Forum, a group of industrialists including TDF which guarantees the interoperability of equipment from different suppliers, by its certification label. WiMAX networks are therefore an efficient supplement to the networks already deployed: ADSL, cable, fibre optics, GSM, UMTS. In concrete terms, this technology now provides a throughput per user of 512 Kbits to 2 Mbits over a distance of up to 15 km in a rural environment.

On 18th June 2008, Bolloré Telecom and TDF signed an agreement for the transfer of Wimax licences. This agreement creates the conditions essential for the deployment and acceleration of the penetration of Wimax in France.
The networks operated by HDRR, particularly for local authorities, for whom the company has power of attorney, shall be fully maintained. The delegation projects supported by the companies Axione and LD Collectivités, partners and shareholders of HDRR, shall be pursued with no change by these companies, which shall continue to have the benefit of TDF's technical expertise under the terms of the current partnerships.
The agreement between the TDF group and Bolloré Telecom shall be subject to the approval of ARCEP (September 2008). The transfers shall only be effective once this approval has been given.
